Is Maine Next To End The Discrimination?

Maine? Are they the next to join the gay marriage train?  According to 365gay.com, thousands of people gathered at the Augusta Civic Center where the first pubic hearings were held to discuss marriage equality.

According to reports, the pro-gay marriage contingent came out in full force and the bill’s sponsor was cheered when he rose to speak. The committee Sen. Dennis Damon (D) is sponsoring two of three bills before the committee. One proposes repealing the Defense of Marriage bill passed twelve years ago. Another would render marriage gender-neutral. Rep. Leslie Fossel (R) also is sponsoring a bill that would maintain DOMA and create a domestic partnership registry.

The governor is said to be keeping an open mind, despite previous opposition.

Fun in The Sun Update

Sunday after our weekly breakfast at Mel’s Diner a handful of us decided to bypass Denio’s and go to the Antique Faire downtown. The equalivant to two city blocks filled with items that were reminiscent of childhood to items that made us say what the #%*( is that? A good example is the parking meter endtable lamp. I tried to think of the setting that would make it a welcomed part of the decor. Our imagination concluded it was originally part of the Bunny Ranch – customers would deposit the proper amount into the meter and when their time was up the light would go out.

In an effort to alert our Natomas neighbors about LGBTQ activities and organizations, we will be featuring an organization each week, providing you a look into what the organization does and how you can participate. Lambda Players Theater is currently in its 20^th season. Lambda Players is an all volunteer non- profit organization. The organization was created so that GLB community had an outlet for live theater. We produce 6 – 8 shows per season. We produce shows that have some sort of gay theme, gay character, or topic of gay interest.

We are always looking for volunteers to help build sets, act, work box office and anything else that goes with running a theater. Anyone wishing to volunteer can email chris(at)lambdaplayers(dot)com. One of the great things about volunteering is you don’t need any relevant experience, we will train anyone.

Prop 8 Oral Arguments Before CA Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has announced that an oral argument will be held in the Prop. 8 cases on Thursday, March 5, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The court will issue a written opinion in the cases within 90 days of oral argument.
