Is Maine Next To End The Discrimination?

maine_gay_flag

Maine? Are they the next to join the gay marriage train?  According to 365gay.com, thousands of people gathered at the Augusta Civic Center where the first pubic hearings were held to discuss marriage equality.

According to reports, the pro-gay marriage contingent came out in full force and the bill’s sponsor was cheered when he rose to speak. The committee Sen. Dennis Damon (D) is sponsoring two of three bills before the committee. One proposes repealing the Defense of Marriage bill passed twelve years ago. Another would render marriage gender-neutral. Rep. Leslie Fossel (R) also is sponsoring a bill that would maintain DOMA and create a domestic partnership registry.

The governor is said to be keeping an open mind, despite previous opposition.

  1. If you want to marry, do so with the opposite sex. I have no problems with a same-sex union, but be as creative as you claim you are and call it by the unique name it deserves. Heterosexuals marry… and divorce… and marry again and again. Perhaps the name of “Common Bond” would imply the meaning you want to convey, but marriage is not a good description for what you seek. Good luck!

    • I agree with you that there should be another title. I am all for civil unions, however, I believe both straight couples and gay couples should share that title whatever it would be. Conveying different terms for the same legal institution alludes to a distinction of importance. As citizens of the same country as you, I should be entitled the same rights and privileges you are afforded – including the name – which is non-secular in nature.

  2. Discrimination? LOL, just because a bunch of minorities (gays)want to have same sex marriage doesn’t mean it counts as discrimination. 3 way marriage next? You have to draw a line in the sand somewhere. This is it people. Hell, Cali couldn’t pass it, so what do they do? Intimidate with the threat of violence when when they don’t get their way. What’s difference between gay activists and the mafia? NOTHING.

    • Oh, is that right Opie. Such a smart boy. Unfortunately for you, that’s exactly what it means:
      dis⋅crim⋅i⋅na⋅tion
/dɪˌskrɪməˈneɪʃən/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [di-skrim-uh-ney-shuhn] Show IPA
      –noun
      1. an act or instance of discriminating.
      2. treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit: racial and religious intolerance and discrimination.
      3. the power of making fine distinctions; discriminating judgment: She chose the colors with great discrimination.
      4. Archaic. something that serves to differentiate.

I don’t think you really want to mention a few minor acts of vandalism against decades of beatings, rapes, and murders of gays solely because they were gay by so-called stand up straight men.

I’m surprised you didn’t pull out the old “next we’ll be marrying our dogs” argument. Grow up. Go back to school. Read the Constitution.

  3. Oh, almost forgot, why aren’t you people on the doorsteps of the White house protesting Obama. He is against Gay marriage too. Why isn’t the press talking about that? It’s because they don’t want to say ANYTHING negative about “GOD”

    • Because it doesn’t really matter at this point what Obama thinks. I worry more about nuts like you.
